Mitzi J. Smith PhD
Mitzi J. Smith, PhD is a womanist biblical scholar, author/co-author/editor of 9 books, professor at Columbia Theological Seminary (Decatur, GA), and social justice advocate. Dr. Smith earned her MDiv from Howard University School of Divinity and her PhD from Harvard University. Three of her latest books are Womanist Sass and Talk Back: Social Injustice, Intersectionality, and Biblical Interpretation (Cascade Books, 2018); Toward Decentering the New Testament (Cascade Books, 2019); and I Found God in Me: A Womanist Biblical Hermeneutics Reader (Cascade Books, 2015). Her co-authored (with Dr. Michael Newhart) book We Are All Witnesses: Toward Disruptive and Creative Biblical Interpretation (Cascade) is forthcoming. She is also co-editing an Oxford Handbook of Bible, Race, and Diaspora. Dr. Smith will soon complete a womanist reading of First Corinthians.
